Our dear friend and customer, Sue V., was generous enough to allow us to blog about her original quilt entitled "Alizarin Crimson Does Picadilly Circus". Utilizing several Kaffe Fassett fabrics and Kaffe Fassett for Liberty Arts fabrics, she has created a beautiful one of a kind piece of art.
She explained that as a child she took oil painting classes and her favorite color was Alizarin crimson and that became the basis for the quilt.
She stated "I started playing with ideas on how to piece the block in a different way using Pinterest and Google searches as inspiration. I saw a block, similar to this, shown and decided this would be fast and easy and striking. Choosing the diagonal fabric was a key point to this...to create a trellis effect, and, because Kaffe's prints are mainly larger in design...I knew it would have to contrast and not overpower the 4 patches."
She finally settled on "Picadilly Circus" from the Liberty Art collection for the lattice lines. In the quilt field I can see Asha, Cabbage Roses, Parasols and many other beautiful Kaffe Fassett designs.
For the back of the quilt she wanted to create a "loose plaid" design. Using Asha in wine as a basis, she started experimenting with different sizes of prints and playing with strips and sections.
I am so impressed and inspired by her artistic expression in this quilt. Thank you so much for allowing us to share!!
